Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a proven therapy that can help reduce the disturbance people feel from past traumatic experiences.
“Memory is an experience in the past that shapes us in the present and influences how we will act, think, and feel in the future.”
Daniel Siegel, MD
EMDR was developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, PhD in the 1980s and used to help Vietnam veterans manage their traumatic memories. EMDR is structured therapy where the client focuses on the traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, usually eye movements. The result is a reduced level of emotion when subsequently visiting the memory. Numerous studies have been conducted proving the efficacy of EMDR.
